Contemporary interior design is an exciting, collective celebration of what is current and new. The look is definitely modern with interesting clean, angular, curved lines holding the space together. Fundamentally, simplicity, subtle sophistication, texture and clean lines help to define contemporary style decorating. Interiors showcase space rather than things. By focusing on colour, space, and shape, contemporary interiors are sleek and fresh. Neutrals, black, and white are the main colours in contemporary style interiors.

Mind- Blowing Design…

Entrance is that first contact with our intimate space, our style and our charisma. That’s why people decorate their entrance space , take care of their lawns , facades and of course doorways. Most of the houses today are still designed in traditional style but as time goes by , people turn to notice the artistry of modern design in architecture more.

Mixed Style Interior Design: Mixed style of Interior Design refers to a blend of traditional and contemporary styles, midway between old world traditional and the world of chrome and glass contemporary; incorporating lines that are less ornate than traditional designs.

A lack of ornamentation and decoration with minimal accessories keeps the focus on the simplicity and sophistication of the design. Colour palettes are typically neutral and subtle and may be monochromatic, with colour in art and accents, not upholstery and floors.

Modern interiors are sleek, spacious, simple, and focus on function and organization. Modern design uses basic geometry (simple edges, curves and angles) and clean lines in furniture, architecture and sculpture. Sleek modern design makes your life easier. Less is more. If you enjoy open space, and don’t need to fill it in with furniture and accessories, you will enjoy the openness of modern interiors. Modern design embraces pure colour - black, white, and neutrals with vibrant primary colours. Too many different colours will overpower the balance of your modern room. Colours enhance the overall impact of your space. Bold contrast using reds, greens, or black, for example, can provide a visual backdrop on a wall, for large pieces.

Zen is a style of Buddhist spiritual practice

Zen design embodies this minimalist philosophy, making use of natural materials, patterns of light and space. A Zen home is meant to be relaxing, contemplative and visually balanced and appealing.

Go for earthy colours

A Zen inspired design is all about using natural and earthy colors, in soft tones, such as white, grey, shades of beige or pink beige, which have the power to induce a sense of relaxation and calmness.  To create diversity combine two matching colors or play with degrades of your favorite color.

Place softness at your feet

Parquet is always a safe choice, as well as any massive wooden flooring and are the best option for your feet. White, greyish or any light earthy tone colored parquets are especially preferred but you can also choose colored parquet provided it matches with the interior and colors of the rest of the room.

Choose natural and light fabrics

Fabrics should stick to the same rule of natural, light and comfortable. Always give them a special effect and go for natural textiles, such as linen, wool or fabric and match them with the rest of the room. Light and natural tone colours will always keep the rooms calm and cool.

Play with soft and natural light

For a fully relaxing space, replace harsh lights with calming, nature-inspired or candle lights. Place different sources of light which will allow you to control the intensity and the areas to be lightened and take all possibilities to mix a floor lamp, a lamp set and indirect light.

Keep furniture simple and natural

Zen style furniture is summarised by its simplicity and clear lines, and to avoid such complicated detail and excess ornamentation. The furniture should be of high quality and made of natural materials as these bring a sense of warmth and relaxation.

Keep ornaments and decorations to a minimum

For wall decorations there is the same word of order: simplicity and minimal. Avoid collections of paintings or photos and keep only those that are especially dear to you. Making the walls congested just because the wall is empty is not a Zen philosophy.

Remove electronic disturbances

Electronic devices are most often a source of distraction and therefore do not integrate in a fully Zen decor. For instance if you need a TV set in the bedroom make sure you place it in a discrete area or hide it in a specially designed cupboard.

Bring in calmness with green plants

Plants always have a calming effect with their soothing green colors and by providing oxygen which excludes suffocated background. However, avoid flowers which need special maintenance or may emanate disturbing scents. Since it is a Japanese influenced style Bonsai trees or hanging terrariums makes a good choice.

Eliminate clutter

Keep the use of accessories to a minimum or eliminate them altogether if not needed, as clutter can inhibit relaxation. Clear your room with not using many items as possible and keep only the essentials, but you are free to add whatever to bring you extra comfort.

RETRO STYLE INTERIOR DESIGN

Retro inspired interior style in modern homes has become a trend now. Bold colours like purple & pink are one of the hottest presently, with accents of gold & silver here and there. Chic & fashionable retro concept can create a unique look & a refreshing ambience in your home.

• Retro design style is a mix match of past styles with some modern twist. Each year has got its own feature; focus on a particular era that you would want to add to your space. For example, well known personalities of that era, their photographs, ranging from artists singers, movies or music. Gather some of these objects, easily available at antique stores & display them. It can be the focal point of your room.

• Though bold & vivacious colours are frequently used, you need not go overboard with it. A unique combination can be achieved by adding a few patterned carpets, a modern chair or some retro pieces to enhance your living space. This also gives a break from the usual monotonous designs.

• It is important to introduce bold patterns & bold colours with caution to achieve a sophisticated design. Red, yellow, turquoise, hot pink, electric blue etc. were some popular colours. A completely retro inspired design in present times will give an overwhelming look.
• Textures are very important, most prominently used is smooth plastic, soft vinyl, crushed velvet etc. Since the theme stands for boldness, you can experiment carefully with different textures.
• Brilliant chandeliers, wardrobes and side tables can add style to the living room. A few elements like cushions and rugs give a playful & hip look.
• By using wooden look for furniture, modern retro style can appear warm & comfortable.
• You can accessorise your space by using these different patterns with geometric shapes in carpets and wall papers. Artefacts with bright colours and large size can be used along with abstract pieces as sculptures.

• Mix & match your furniture with a single piece of chair or sofa as the focal point. Most sofas are broad with multi-coloured cushions and, to achieve a shiny Bing, a dash of chrome bar stool with bright red or some silver or gold. This draws instant attention and gives the perfect Retro feeling.

Less is more

We often hear people say "less is more," which is related to mean cheaper is better. The theory of less is more isn't about spending less. It is about achieving better design through simplicity.

Choose a single stand-out piece and then let it well stand out. For instance provide a rug alone plenty of color and pattern and neutral single color to this room allows the rug to take centre stage.

Choose objects or furnishings that are simple and pure in interior design. Less is more isn't always about a single object but how clutter free and simple you keep the design of the furniture too.

Give things plenty of space. When you create minimalistic visuals, you let the most important elements shine by removing the excess and provide plenty of space.

Choose design elements that are simple and minimal. To create a less visual in the space, selecting simple design elements would be apt with flat colors and a lot of blank space. Blank and free space attracts the eye, and has a calming effect on the rooms.

Designer’s Insight

As the saying goes, quality is more important than quantity. This rings especially true when it comes to achieving “less is more concept” in your home. It’s practical, simple, and even more affordable. Simplify your life by simplifying your approach to design for visual relaxation. Keep the above suggestions in mind while paring down each room in your home to get back to basics.
